Retirement
Pensions are designed to enable you to save sufficient money to live comfortably after you have retired from work. The Individual and work based pensions arena is an ever changing world, with new legislation being brought out on a regular basis. It is hard to keep track and hence know what’s best for your “retirement pot”.
Along with the state pension many people have pension funds built up over the years and are looking for the best home to help aid their income in retirement.
We all know it’s important to plan for retirement, but many of us are still not planning well enough. However, the facts are we are all going to be living longer.
Protection
Financial products are sometimes at their most useful when they are protecting our families, our incomes or our property. Whilst insuring ourselves against an undesirable event such as sickness or even death may not be a pleasant thing to think about, the benefit of being able to set financial issues aside at emotionally difficult times cannot be overlooked.
There are many ways in which you can protect yourself, and because of the large range of products available there is usually an appropriate policy for most circumstances, and most budgets to ensure you have peace of mind for you and your family.
Savings and investments
Why are we encouraged to save money? From childhood most of us are told to put away money to save for the future – perhaps for something special?
Or perhaps to be sure that when we really need something we have the funds to acquire it. Whether you place your money in a piggy bank, or in a multinational investment house, our aims are broadly the same; to provide for our future needs, and to protect ourselves against unexpected causes of expenditure.
When planning your finances, it is important to distinguish the difference between savings and investments.
Savings are generally funds that you set aside, but can be accessed relatively quickly. These savings are often for a specific need or purchase, like a holiday or a new car. The most common way of ‘saving’ is into a bank or building society account (‘deposit’ account) where the money can be accessed in an emergency.
Investments are longer term products designed for 5 years plus and as such come in a myriad of flavours and risk. Whatever, you wish to save for I will ensure any savings and Investment plan match both your attitude to risk and your personal objectives.
